Consider Jesus' words in Luke 9:23: "Anyone who would come after me must deny himself and up his cross." Jesus here asserts that self-denial is an essential part of discipleship. Now ask yourself these questions:
"How in the last week have I voluntarily denied myself something I really wanted?"
"What is one thing I have deprived myself of recently?"
If you cannot think of an example and you don't make it a practice to deny yourself, then in what sense to you qualify as a disciple of Christ.
