Bucket List - Driving Range with Daddy

Bucket List - Milwaukee Zoo

Camp David or Bust

After a busy seven months, it felt good to hit the interstate bound for Elcho, WI. This year in particular I enjoyed watching each of our children's personalities come alive in the north woods.  The little lady spent her days jumping off the dock, swimming in the lake, and planning dance parties in Uncle Bob's boat.  When the little ones napped, she enjoyed soaking up the sun with the adults on the pontoon boat, and hit the pillow hard each evening spent from her activity-filled days.  The little man never once made it into the water, but preferred to spend his days watching "beed boats" and go on the occasional boat ride.  He eagerly picked up and examined each bug that crawled his way, and looked for every opportunity to roast marshmallows with his ol' man.  The littlest savored the extra attention given to her by each family member, enjoyed afternoon dips in her red bucket, and anticipated cousin George's presence as he sniffed and licked his way into her heart.  Each year I look forward to capturing our children in this beautifully scenic home away from home.  They always prove to be some of my favorite pictures of the year.

We celebrate

With residency and two fellowships behind us, I organized a small surprise gathering to celebrate Jeff's accomplishments.  With little notice, our dearest friends accepted my last minute invitation, most traveling from Illinois to show their support. These friends have been our backbone through each season of life, uplifting us in prayer, providing accountability, encouragement, stability, and love.  These friendships, some dating back to junior high, have been the ones who moved us to Madison after medical school, traveled to Cleveland to ensure we weren't lonely, and welcomed us back to Milwaukee with excitement and anticipation. While we gathered in honor of Jeff, I think more than anything, the afternoon was a celebration of friendship.

Powerful Reminder

Sometimes silence is golden. In a world riddled with marketing messages that assault our brains at every turn, silence is rare. It’s precious. It’s fleeting, and it should be sought after for reflection – to slow down the pace of life and reflect. Think. Pray.

Silence is also terrifying.
