Trick or treating came late this year due to the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. Our little superheroes were not dismayed; however, and patiently waited the extra week before suiting up. Armed with an extra layer of clothing, and trusty pumpkins they flew down the sidewalks of Shaker, capes flapping over the tops of puffy winter coats. The air was crisp as our Super Woman and Man marveled over the freedom of roaming the streets at night, appreciating each carved pumpkin, strand of orange lights, and brightly lit doorstep, a beacon with the promise of sweet treats for all who dared to knock.
Remembering the drill from last year, Superwoman led the way faster than a speeding bullet, while Superman didn't quite live up to his famed reputation. With an eye for detail, we watched as our magenta crusader carefully chose the specific homes she would approach, favoring those with brightly lit paths and festive Halloween decor. As their pumpkins grew heavy, filled with many full-sized candy bars (thank you, Shaker residents), we made our way home, hearts full as we acknowledged the many wonderful memories we have made in this great city.
