It's Early

(photo taken by charlotte larson)
THIS GUY. MY LITTLE ALARM CLOCK.
I USED TO THINK I WAS A MORNING PERSON; HOWEVER, I'M REALIZING THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WAKING AT 6:30 AM (PRE-CHILDREN) AND WAKING AT 6 (POST-CHILDREN WITH INTERRUPTED SLEEP CYCLES). THIS MORNING I WAS GREETED WITH AN ALL TOO CHIPPER, "BA-BA...DA-DA" AT 5:15AM. CURIOUS, THAT THE LITTLE GUY ALWAYS CALLS FOR HIS OL' MAN IN THE MORNING WHEN IT IS I, MAMA, WHO IS THERE TO FETCH HIM. THE HOUR BETWEEN 5 AND 6 AM IS (IN MY OPINION) MORE PAINFUL THAN PLEASANT. I EMPATHIZE WITH THOSE WHO'S DAILY ALARM BEEPS OR BUZZES AT THAT HOUR.

THINGS LEARNED AT 5:15 AM:

- COFFEE TASTES BETTER AFTER 6, PREFERABLY 7 AM.

- WHILE LESS SATISFYING, COFFEE IS MANDATORY.

- THE TV SCREEN IS OBNOXIOUSLY BRIGHT.

- YOUR EYEBALLS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO ACHE.

- THE BABBLES OF A BABY REGISTER A TEN, WHEN IN REALITY ARE MORE LIKELY A FIVE OR SIX (AT A MORE REASONABLE HOUR).

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE...

- ONE IS ABLE TO SHOWER, DRY HAIR AND PUT ON FULL MAKE-UP BEFORE 7:30 AM (A RARE OCCURRENCE AS A MOTHER OF TWO, AT LEAST IN MY HOUSEHOLD).

- ONE IS ABLE TO ARRIVE AT TARGET, PARK IN FIRST SLOT AND BE AMONG THE FIRST SHOPPERS OF THE DAY.

LORD, HELP ME TO REMEMBER THAT "THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE; I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!" WHETHER IT IS 5 AM OR 8 AM.
